Required Placement Tests: Freshman Composition Class

Effective written communication is essential to your success as a student and in your career. The freshman composition course is the first step in a series of courses during college that will require substantial amounts of writing. Students are placed into a Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures (WRA) course based on their ACT/SAT test scores. For more information visit www.msu.edu/~wrac. Students wishing to “write out” of their Preparation for College Writing course (WRA 1004/102) will have the opportunity to write an essay during the testing session during Fall Welcome.

Placement Tests: Foreign Language Placement

Some students must demonstrate foreign language proficiency for certain majors offered in East Lansing. Students who major in the areas of business, natural science, journalism, education, and social studies, among others, will find foreign language skills beneficial in their study and careers. Foreign language placement tests in French, German, and Spanish are available at http://flplacement.cal.msu.edu. Interested students should consult an academic advisor for further details.
