MSU Dubai Distinguished Scholarship Program
2009-2010

Michigan State University Dubai (MSUD) announces its 2009 Distinguished Scholarship Award Program to recognize outstanding students who will begin their university studies in the fall semester of 2009 and those who are returning to MSU Dubai for their second year.

Scholarship Overview

The MSU Dubai Distinguished Scholarship Program provides opportunities for ten outstanding entering students at four levels:

  • Dubai Distinguished Freshman Scholarship/Professorial Assistantship Award
    - Three annual tuition scholarships, plus $2500 annual research stipends
  • Dubai Distinguished Freshman Scholarship
    - Two annual tuition scholarships
  • Dubai Distinguished Freshman Commended Finalist Scholarship
    - Two annual half-tuition scholarships
  • Dubai Professorial Assistantship Award for Continuing Students
    - Three annual $2500 research stipends   

Dubai Professorial Assistants receive a $2,500 research stipend and are linked to a member of the MSU Dubai faculty to engage in specialized research.  Michigan State University is committed to providing unique learning opportunities for undergraduate students to work with faculty on their scholarship and produce an original work product that contributes to the knowledge or activity of a particular discipline.

Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen based on their entering credentials, leadership experience, and commitment to community service.  Academic credentials considered are those available in the MSU Dubai admission process including grade point average, class rank, standardized test scores, and counselor/teacher recommendations.  No additional application is required.

Successful candidates for Dubai Distinguished Scholarship Awards will:

  • Meet all admission criteria for attendance at Michigan State University;
  • Graduate in the top 10% of their graduating class;
  • Show evidence of leadership and service in their personal statements;

The MSU Dubai Distinguished Scholarship is only applicable to course work in Dubai.  Scholarship recipients who achieve a cumulative grade point average above 3.5 at the conclusion of each year will retain their scholarships for the subsequent year of study in Dubai.

Continuing students selection for the Professorial Assistant Award will be selected based on their cumulative grade point average during the 2008-2009 academic year.  Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students in order to qualify for the award.

Awarding Timetable

Prospective students wishing to be considered for the Distinguished Scholarship Program must complete their paid application not later than June 23, 2009.  Award decisions will be announced on July 1, 2009.  Award recipients will be required to complete and sign a scholarship agreement specifying the terms outlined above.
