Stand Up Take Action – End Poverty Now - Pledge & Campaign!
Students at MSU Dubai are helping raise awareness to stop poverty by promoting the annual global STAND UP campaign. STAND UP is a campaign organized by UNDP that has been working annually in the hope of ending poverty and human cruelty around the world.
On Sunday October 18th, MSU students, faculty and staff participated in the campaign and recited a pledge to end poverty by 2015. A Guinness World Record was set when 173,045,325 citizens gathered at over 3,000 events in more than 120 countries, demanding that their governments eradicate extreme poverty and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). "Stand Up, Take Action, End Poverty Now!", now in its fourth year, has been certified by Guinness World Records as the largest mobilization of human beings in recorded history, an increase of about 57 million people over last year.
To put the pledge in action the students also kicked off a Collection Drive – collecting clothes & blankets, canned food items and educational supplies.
