Research Associate Professor in the Neuroscience lab of Dr. Cheryl Sisk at MSU. Her research interest is in the effects of steroid hormones and neurogenesis on brain development during puberty. Dr. Ahmed received her Bachelor in Veterinary Science from Cairo University and a Ph.D. from University Ludwig Maximilian, Germany.

Associate Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures, and director of the Writing Center at MSU-Dubai. He was educated in both the Arab world and the U.S., earning a BA in English language and literature from Damascus University in 1993, then a master's in applied linguistics in 1998 from Indiana University. In 2005 he received his Ph.D. in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Arizona, where he also taught. He taught at Zayed University in Dubai from 2002-2005. Dr. Al Khalil publishes research on language and technology.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures. He completed an MA in English as a Second Language (1994) and a Ph.D. in Linguistics (1998) at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He has taught previously at several universities in the US - Minnesota, Mississippi, and Wisconsin; at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in the KSA; and the American University of Sharja in the UAE. His research interests include second language pragmatics and the development of second language fluency.

Assistant Professor, Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media. He received a B. Eng in Aerospace, MBA in e-Business, and Ph.D. in Information Systems with a concentration in electronic business and mobile commerce. He consults on web content management, website development, online marketing, and event organizing. Dr. Coursaris' current research interests lie in the intersection of usability and mobile devices for the purpose of health and/or commercial applications, and is also studying the importance of aesthetics for usability.

An Assistant Professor in the Center for Integrative Studies in Social Science since 1982, Dr. Handrick offers ISS 210 The Individual and Society and ISS 315 Global Diversity and Interdependence at MSU Dubai. In addition, Dr. Handrick will direct a five week program on The European Union, Globalization and Social Change in France and Belgium this summer that is open to MSU Dubai students. He holds a Ph.D. (1981) in Anthropology from MSU and has done fieldwork on nationalism, language and social change in Quebec and conducted extensive resource use studies among Native American communities in Wisconsin. Dr. Handrick was the Director of the MSU Canadian Studies Centre for five years and since 1987 has led numerous study abroad programs to London, Quebec and Nepal.

Professor Sophia Koufopoulou teaches sociology and anthropology at MSU Dubai. She has been a member of the Department of Sociology at Michigan State since 1994. Professor Koufopoulou adopts a multidimensional approach to her teaching, research, and community engagement activities. She is an expert in the social sciences with a deep anthropological knowledge of a wide and varied constituency. Professor Koufopoulou’s research interests fall into three clusters: women and development, ethnic identities, and anthropological field research methods. These clusters are linked into a cohesive whole through the application of the combined theoretical and methodological approaches of anthropology and sociology with an overarching policy perspective. In addition to her teaching and research responsibilities, Professor Koufopoulou serves as the faculty coordinator of co-curricular activities for students at MSU Dubai.

Associate Professor, Department of Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media. He is program coordinator for the Media Management and Research program. His diverse background includes experience in television production, journalism, and telecom policy and regulation. A long-time educator, he also has substantial industry experience. His research examines the interplay of technological innovation, market dynamics and policy in the telecom and media industries. He received an M.A. in Radio-TV-Film and a Ph.D. in Communication, both from the University of Texas at Austin.

Associate Professor, Family & Child Ecology - MSU Dubai. Will coordinate the Family Community Services Bachelor degree and be responsible for teaching, recruiting, and advising students. Dr. Rider is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist, having received his MS in Family Relations and his Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas. He has previously taught at Zayed University in Dubai.

Associate Professor of Chemistry. She began her college education at the American University of Beirut where she completed a BS and MS in Chemistry. She continued her graduate career at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her interests were in bioinorganic chemistry, in particular the investigation of copper and iron metal centers in native and biosynthetic proteins. She completed her Ph.D. work in May, 2008 and subsequently joined the faculty at Michigan State University, Dubai.

Associate Professor and program director of the Computer Engineering program at MSU-Dubai. She received her PhD (‘94) in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. Prior to joining the Dubai ECE faculty, Dr. Tlili was an associate professor and program coordinator of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the American University in Dubai from 2004-2008. Her area of specialty is Applied Electromagnetics. Her research interests include Antenna analysis and design, Electromagnetic Theory, Field propagation in complex media and Microwave electronics.

Assistant Dean in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources with primary responsibility for the college programs in Dubai. He was the founding director of the Michigan State University School of Planning, Design, and Construction and also served as the director of the Construction Management Program. Prior to MSU, he was at the University of Tennessee and the University of Nebraska. He has prior experience as a product manager for a large irrigation manufacturing company and actively consults in the industry. He has received numerous awards for teaching and scholarship, and has been similarly recognized by industry associations. Dr. von Bernuth has published more than 140 professional articles on topics varying from international study experiences to measuring the impacts of air quality. He is best known for his fundamental work in water droplet ballistics in wind and criteria for design of sprinkler systems in wind. He has traveled and consulted in more than 60 countries. He holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Engineering and an MBA from Claremont Graduate University.
